Tug of War es un álbum de Paul McCartney editado en 1982. Precedido por McCartney II, Tug of War es el primer álbum en solitario de McCartney tras la disolución oficial de Wings, acaecida en abril de 1981. La duradera grabación del álbum abarcó la reunión con antiguos compañeros y la muerte de otra persona importante en la vida de McCartney.
Siguiendo a la edición de McCartney II, Wings se reunió en octubre de 1980 para lo que sería su última sesión de grabación, donde se ensayaron canciones que posteriormente aparecerían en Tug of War y Pipes of Peace. Una vez disuelto el grupo, McCartney llamó a George Martin para la producción, en un primer momento, de una canción escrita para el personaje de animación Rupert Bear llamada "We All Stand Together". Las sesiones de grabación continuaron hasta el 9 de diciembre, día en el que Paul McCartney descubrió al levantarse que su compañero de The Beatles John Lennon había sido asesinado en Nueva York la noche anterior. Abandonadas las sesiones de grabación debido al abatimiento de McCartney, tanto él como George Martin sintieron la necesidad de aplazar el proyecto hasta que estuvieran nuevamente preparados.
